Hypotonic Pelvic Floor Dysfunction

What is hypotonic pelvic floor dysfunction?

Hypotonic pelvic floor dysfunction refers to a condition where the pelvic floor muscles are too long or too weak, and may not be adequately supporting the pelvic organs. Otherwise undiagnosed sexual pain is not often attributed to hypotonic pelvic floor dysfunction, however I felt it would be remiss to not mention it at all, as it is unfortunately common. Most often, the cause of loose and weak pelvic floor muscles is childbirth or aging.

Hypotonic pelvic floor dysfunction is typically found in women suffering from incontinence, childbirth trauma, orgasm dysfunction, vaginal laxity, and pelvic organ prolapse. Pelvic floor physical therapy can improve the strength and tone of the pelvic floor muscles.
